Obituary of Stewart Wright
Riverton-John Stewart Wright, age 78 years, Riverton, formerly of Westville, passed away on Thursday, October 25th 2018, at Palliative Care, Aberdeen Hospital.
Born in New Glasgow, Stewart was the youngest son of the late John and Annie (Stuart) Wright of Westville.
Stewart grew up in Westville, until 1973 where he and his family moved to Riverton after building his home.
As a young man, Stewart volunteered as a mentor and leader in Scouts. He also enjoyed being a member of the Army Reserves.
Stewart was a member to St Paul’s United Church for most of his life and the later became a member of the Springville Presbyterian Church as well as the Royal Canadian Legion.
Stewart was hard working man who provided for his family by working in the Drummond Mine, Westville and then started a career as a welder for Maritime Steel and Foundries.
Stewart enjoyed dancing, music and his hobbies included woodworking and working outdoors. He volunteered for many community events, however his family was most important to him. Daily you would find him visiting his parents during their final years while they resided at a nursing home and taking care of their needs.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Diane (Stewart), daughters Deborah Wright, Halifax; Janice (John) Watters, Pictou; grandchildren: Claire and Olivia Mercer, John (Jr) and Christopher Watters; Brother: Daniel (Marilyn) Wright, Abbotsford, BC; Stepdaughter: Melissa Roy; Stepson: Brandon (Angela) Roy; Step grandchildren: Emily and Julia Marriott; Jaidyn and Keira Roy, Great Granddaughter: Elizabeth Watters.
Steward was predeceased by his wife Shirley (Harris), parents, John and Annie (Stewart) Wright and granddaughter Nacine Watters.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation was held at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville, on November 4. Following this, a private grave side burial for family only was held at St Bee’s Cemetery, Westville with Rev. Charles MacPherson officiating.
