Obituary of Isabel MacKay

Isabel MacKay , 91, of Valley View Villa, formerly of Union Center, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 6, 2010. She will be sadly missed by sons, Melvyn (Pat) Gairloch; Wayne (Susan) Rocklin; and daughter Carolyn, Leduc AB; by grandchildren Brad, Gail, Janice, Alex, Kari, four great grandchildren, a sister Frances Thompson Westville; and adopted sister Doris Barber, Westville. She was predeceased by her parents and husband, Chester MacKay. Isabel taught school for over 25 years in many schools in rural Pictou County. She was an active member of Middle River Presbyterian Church being a long time elder and clerk of session. She was a 50 year life member of the AMS, and belonged to the Church Aid. Isabel and her husband were founding members of Union Centre Community Hall. She was secretary treasure of Birch Hill Cemetery. Isabel was secretary treasurer of the Middle River telephone Company. She was a member of the Women’s Institute. Isabel was an avid card player, loved old time dancing, and was a strong supporter and leader of various community endeavours and events. Visitations will be held Sat. from 3:30- 5:00 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. A Celebration of Isabel’s life will be held Sunday, May 9, at 1:00 p.m. at Middle River Presbyterian Church with Rev. Gary Tonks officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall.
