Obituary of Joseph Young

Joseph Israel Young, age 86, of Salt Springs, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2019 in the Aberdeen Hospital with his family by his side.

Born in Sheaves Cove, Newfoundland, he was a son of the late Israel and Veronica (Benoit) Young.

He grew up in Newfoundland and moved to Nova Scotia in 1965 to reside in Salt Springs. A woodsman all of his working life, he was employed with various pulp contractors including Miller and MacKinnon, Blair Cameron, and Lovat Pulp and Logging. Joe was an avid hunter and sports fisherman, especially enjoying duck hunting. He also liked camping, but his greatest enjoyment was being with his family.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 62 years Kathleen (Benoit); children, Lenora Stevens (Eddie), Salem Road; Viola Miller (David), Whitecourt, Alta.; Billie Young, Salt Springs; Jervis Young, Loch Broom; Veronica Young, Lower Sackville; Lorraine Greig, Los Angeles; Margie White (Rick), Watervale; 11 grandchildren, Joey and Tommy; Chastity, Julia and Michael; Sophia; Chelsea and Coady; Jean-Guy; Kaitlyn and Jenna; and great grandchildren, Meghan, Evan, Hannah, Joshua, Keiran, Conor, Dayne, Hunter, and Aurora.

He was predeceased by twin brother Wilson; brother Edward and sister Venice Besaw.

His family will receive visitors on Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. His funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday from Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville with Father Peter MacDonald officiating. Interment will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Ileitis and Colitis Foundation or the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society.
