Obituary of Theresa Miller
It is with sadness the family of the late Theresa (MacPhee) Miller of White Hill, announce her passing in Valley View Villa, Riverton on June 12, 2019.
Theresa was born in St. George’s, Prince Edward Island to Janey and Malcolm MacPhee on June 30th, 1929 and loved growing up an Island girl.
She is survived by her children Florence Miller, Maureen (Tom) Lays, Sharlene (Norman) MacLeod, Roddie (Kathy) Miller, Brenda (Bobby) Gordon, Denise (Gordie) Marr, and special foster son Alex (Karen) Ryan. Nanny was a proud grandmother to Colin, Billy, Troy, Justin, Krista, Mark, Melissa, Heather, Katie, Tyler and Spencer and 11 great-grand children. She is also survived by sister-in-law Rita MacPhee and many nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by her husband of 44 years, Roderick Miller; brothers John Dan, George, Pius, Roddie, Louis, Joe, Cyril, sisters Katie, Anna and Martha and special foster daughter Linda Millen.
Theresa was always an amazing care giver. She worked as a care aide for many years; first in Pictou when she initially moved to Nova Scotia, then Riverview Home Corporation in Riverton and finally at Shady Oaks Nursing Home in White Hill from where she retired in 1989 at 60 years old. A true nurturer; she was a fantastic cook, baker & homemaker and her door was always open. She had a soft spot for children and fostered many over the years, all of whom became extended members of the family. Theresa loved to cook for a crowd, particularly on Sundays and she always made sure everyone was tended to before herself. She worked hard, laughed often and made friends wherever she went. She always took pride in dressing stylishly and enjoyed her trips to the mall with her girls, especially in recent years. Another favorite pastime was attending card parties with friends in Union Center and Westville. Most importantly her faith, strength and commitment to family was apparent every day of her life.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff of Valley View Villa; Fr. Peter MacDonald; and her many friends and good neighbors from over the years. Your kindness to Mom and our family will never be forgotten.
Visiting for Theresa was held at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville, on Friday, June 14 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Her funeral service took place on Saturday, June 15 at 11 o’clock from The Holy Name Church, Westville, with Father Peter MacDonald officiating. Interment was in Holy Name Cemetery. Donations may be made in Theresa’s memory’s to Valley View Villa.
