Obituary of Jim Campbell

James (Jimmy) "Moondog" Campbell, 57, Purvis Avenue, Westville, passed away on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at his home. Born in New Glasgow on April 25, 1953, Jimmy was a son of the late Malcolm and Christine (MacDonald) Campbell. As a boy, Jimmy resided in Mt. William and Stellarton. He became known to his friends as "Moondog". In his early years he was involved in construction; worked at Dave Bowridge Gulf Garage, Blue Acres; and also at Blue Acres Esso for 23 years, until 1996. He also worked with Cargo Taxi for a year before becoming a school bus driver with the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board for 10 years, a job which he enjoyed every minute . He loved every child who was in his care. He was a member of the Stellarton Legion Br. #28 and was in the army reserves as a teenager. He was on the Board of Stewards at St. Paul United Church. Moondog played for the Stellarton High School Rugby and Track and Field teams; Vic’s Shell ball team. He was a long-time player of washers and darts, and was a member of the Pictou Co. Dart League where he was the first player to win Most Gentlemen-Like Player Award. He coached and organized minor ball in Westville. Music was a great part of his life, but his greatest enjoyment was to watch and support his son in minor hockey and his daughter in drama. He will be sadly missed by his wife Patricia (Davison); daughter Elizabeth "Beth", Stellarton; and son Michael "Mike", Halifax; and brother Roderick Malcolm "Roy", Stellarton. Visitations will be held from 3:30-5:00 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. His funeral service will be held 4 o’clock Sunday at St. Paul United Church, Westville with Rev. Doug Pilsworth officiating. Family flowers only. Donations in his memory may be made to the ALS Society of Nova Scotia
