Obituary of Nan MacKean
Annie Lillian “Nan” MacKean, age 108, of New Glasgow, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 in Ivys Terrace, Trenton, NS.
Born in Churchville, she was the daughter of the late William Henry and Lauretta (MacKay) Robertson.
For a number of years the family resided in Sioux Lookout, Ontario. Nan taught school for ten years, at Churchville, Piedmont, and Pictou Landing. During the war, she was employed in the Time Office of Eastern Car, Trenton. For seventeen years, Nan and her husband Edgar owned and operated a garage and grocery at High St., Trenton. During the next nine years, they operated a Petro-Fina Service Station at South Foord St., Stellarton and retired in 1975.
Nan’s hobbies included sewing, knitting, crocheting and tatting. She was an avid reader and cross word puzzle fan. For many years, Nan and her husband Edgar enjoyed old time dancing. Nan was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow and a former member of the former Zion Presbyterian Church, Eureka, where she taught Sunday School; a member of Silver Light Rebekah Lodge, Hopewell, and a member of the Gunshop Memory Club. Nan was a resident of 42 Highland Drive all her married life and the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by nieces and nephews, Glenda, Debbie, and Bruce (MacKean) and George and Sheila (Robertson). She will also be missed by close friends Pat MacKay, Betty Chisholm, and John and Nancy Baldwin.
Nan was predeceased by her husband Edgar and brother Hugh William Robertson.
Respecting Nan’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private family committal at Hopewell Cemetery will take place at a later date. Donations in memory of Nan may be sent to the Hopewell Cemetery Co., Hopewell, NS, B0K 1C0.
