My earliest memories of Ray was when he taught me french at West Pictou. Everyone always loved Mr. Cyr!
Later in life I grew to know Ray from attending Holy Name.
He was always the gentleman, and always had a smile and kind word.

Papa was an amazing grandfather and storyteller. I have so many memories of the fun times we had and the stories he told. My favorite memory that immediately comes to mind is from when I was very young. I asked Papa to come play hockey outside on the street. I told him there was a catch though and that I would be the Habs and he would have to be the Stinkin' Leafs. He started laughing hysterically and I don't think he ever forgot about that day. I also remember my many victories over Papa, Renee, and NannyRaine in our Skip-Bo games that we played so often. And there wasn't much I could love more than spending my summers in Westville going golfing with Dad and Papa, and getting donuts at Timmies. There are so many more memories I could spout off and I will never forget those ones either. Thanks for all the good times and happy days Papa, I love you. Also, Go Habs Go!!

Papa was the most loving and caring grandfather that always put a smile on my face. I had so much fun playing games with him like Headbands, where you have to guess the card on your forehead. He named almost everything in the bathroom and could not guess toilet paper haha. Skip-bo was another great game even when I didn't win. Marc and I both loved going to Canada for the summers to spend time with NannyRaine and Papa; whether we were playing golf, watching the Canada Day parade, celebrating my birthday, going to the Swiss Chalet, or getting coffee and sweets from Tim Hortons/McDonalds. I wish I could be there in person to give a proper goodbye but he will always be in my heart. Love you Papa!

Dear Lorraine, Tad and I were so sorry to hear about Ray’s passing. We have lovely memories of him, and always enjoyed catching up during your many visits to Ft. Myers. He had such a lovely smile and a twinkle in his eye. I have always found great solace in this poem by Henry Scott Holland, and hope it resonates with you. Death is nothing at all. I have only slipped away to the next room. I am I and you are you. Whatever we were to each other, That, we still are. Call me by my old familiar name. Speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference into your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me. Pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without effect. Without the trace of a shadow on it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same that it ever was. There is absolute unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you. For an interval. Somewhere. Very near. Just around the corner. All is well. Nothing is past; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before only better, infinitely happier and forever we will all be one together with Christ. Keeping you, Ray, Marla, Renee, Marc, Lucas and Jessica in our prayers, Love Tad and Corita

One line in the obituary stands out to me: "He was a true gentleman." Late sixties...three years of high school French-written and oral and Mr. Cyr always with an understanding smile and gentle delivery. No one was disruptive in our class-he commanded respect with his calm demeanor. I was a quiet student and he understood my hesitancy to speak out . During one lesson, I noticed a mistake in a sentence on the board. I turned to my friend behind me and whispered the correct verb to her. My friend raised her hand and made the correction, which he appreciated. Then he looked at me, the shy little girl who hated to be called upon in class, and gave me a little nod and his trademark smile. I will never forget it, and when I became a teacher, I tried hard to emulate his teaching style and rapport with students. He will rest in peace!
