My sincerest condolences to Betty Jean's family. I was very saddened to learn about Betty Jean's passing. I had the absolute pleasure of working with Betty Jean starting in 2000 when she was a member of the newly established OHS Appeal Panel. She was always so very thoughtful, kind and caring, and throughout the years, I admired all that Betty Jean continued to accomplish. She will be missed. - Diana Hartley, Chief Administrator, NS Labour Board

My heart goes out to my Uncle Gordon and family and the Daley/ Sutherland families. Aunt BettyJean was a force to be seen . She loved her family and friends and her Cupe brothers and sisters. She would do what she could for you in a heart beat. She was there to talk and listen to you and help you out when needed. You know there was a pot of tea waiting for you and something sweet. She loved shortbread cookies the best. I remember her sending me to the bakery on main street to get some. Lol I know the one thing she didn't like to do is ... wrap christmas gifts, I know she had to of gotten every niece she could to wrap gifts for her and when you came to that one special gift she would tell you to put that one on the bar and I'll put the name on it. lol cause it was yours.. I will cherish our memories we made and all the chats we had and I will miss your advice and knowing to were always a call away. Love you Auntie BettyJean, Love Harriet(Gostock) Materi and Tim, Matthew, Madison and Robert

My sincere condolences to the Sutherland family in the passing of Betty Jean. Obviously she is a major loss to your family but in a broader sense she is a great loss to the Town of Westville for her interest in and concern for our collective well being.
I feel like I was just getting to know her as a member of council and I will miss her straight shooter approach to issues and her sage input. I know she had much more to give.
May her memory be a blessing to you all.
