So sorry to hear that Jim passed. Whenever we were at gatherings, Jim always made a point to come over and chat, me being a newcomer. He was warm & witty, and had the knack of making you feel, when you chatted, that you mattered. I will miss not seeing him again. To all of his family & friends, kith & kin, my heartfelt sympathy.

I am very sad to hear of Jim’s, passing, whom I first met at a job interview for the NSLC many years ago. I was already friends with Dwayne and Melissa at the time, and we continue to be close to this day. My thoughts and prayers are with you all, and I hope you all find strength in one another. In reading the wonderful memories of Jim, I have learned a few things, and it doesn’t surprise me at all, that he was such a community minded person. I have a few personal memories that I will carry fondly, likely for many years to come. I especially enjoyed Jim’s company at card games, with a smile and a laugh. He always had a great story or two, and I still chuckle when telling them, even today. Rest In Peace Jim. I consider myself blessed to have known you and for the few occasions that we laughed together. You will be missed, but remembered fondly, and there will always be a seat at the table for you…

To Aaron and family - I am saddened to hear of your Dads' passing. We worked together before his retirement and had many great chats about sports and family. He was very well-respected by both staff and management at head office and I could always count on him for sound advice. My thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

It was back in the early 1960s in New Glasgow that I got to know Jim. He and I both hung around Dan Thompson’s Record Bar. Jim was involved with the store for awhile, but I was simply a customer who got to know Dan and Jim. We spent many hours talking about a little bit of everything. That association tailed off after the fire that destroyed the store on Provost Street — a fire I covered for the Herald….., For a long time after my move to metro I didn’t see much of either Dan or Jim. Reading the account of his many activities, it’s easy to see why Jim and I didn’t see each other often. It was when the boys got involved in minor hockey, that I began seeing Jim again around Cole Harbour and Dartmouth rinks…. I just want to refer briefly about the photo. Even though it’s been 60 years, Jim never changed his good looks. His wonderful personality I got to know around New Glasgow still shines in that lovely photo. My deepest condolences to everyone in the family. You have certainly lost a great guy. My thoughts are with you all….. Hugh Townsend

I guess I knew Jimmy for over fifty years. I would see him when he would come home and stay at Kim and Wendy's. We would have great conversations about life in Westville and what not years ago. Jimmy had a sharp mind and was very knowledgeable. He was nice to my children and still referred to me as "Cat", especially when he wanted to get my attention. He will be greatly missed.
