Debbie, Steven and families. I was reading the article in our Reporter about retired Sergeant Tyson Matthew Bowen and the wonderful project he and his father are involved in to help our servicemen suffering from PTSD when I realized it was your son. We are heartbroken for all of you. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
We have a grandson in the army stationed in Edmonton, our prayers go out to all our servicemen and women who are trying to make this a better world.
God bless you and may Tyson Rest In Peace.

I was Tyson’s Platoon Commander in 2011 when we were both with 2 RCR. I really thought the world of him. As a new officer I counted my self luck to have such an experienced NCO working for me. What I really appreciated was his character and personality which transcended his experience. Tyson had just returned from Afghanistan when he was in my platoon and I knew I’d be deploying to Kabul next year. In many ways he took me under his wing and shared his experience and insights to get me ready to go over. I remember one exercise where he lent me his chest rig to try out as it was the one I was interested in buying for my deployment. I also remember how we connected over our love of Brittany Spaniels and our interest in veganism.
I was devestated to hear of his passing he was a man who was truely gone before his time. I count myself luck to have known him and to have such posit menories of him. I’ll always remember his self assured smile, positive attitude and mop of golden brown hair.
God bless you and Pro Patria,
Alex Whittaker.

As the father of an Afghanistan vet myself, I am struggling to find the right words. Tennille shared stories of Tyson with me that glowed with pride and an incredible sense of duty. May the outpouring of love from all who have been touched by Tyson and his desire to make the world a better place bring some comfort at this time. My prayers are with you all.

I was deeply saddened to hear about Tyson’s passing. I am so sorry for your tremendous loss and can’t imagine the pain that you are all feeling at this difficult time.
Many of my memories are from days gone by, but it is clear that Tyson carried the qualities that I remember forward to become a hard working, loyal, and caring young man with the biggest heart. In reading his beautiful tribute, I was inspired by how many lives he has touched in his short time on Earth, and by his selflessness in continually doing for others.
I am wishing you peace, comfort, and strength as you move forward. Sending love and prayers!
I will never forget you, Tyson! Rest In Peace, old friend!

To Debbie, Stephen, Jenna, Girls, Tanya, and Tennille,
I have no words…there are to words to describe the tragic set of circumstances that have taken Tyson from your lives…there is a crushing sadness in my heart over this devastating news. The number one thing I remember about Tyson is that heart melting smile, his desire to do for others as he did when he requested to escort Barry and I to the Nova Scotia International Tattoo. He made me feel like a was royalty…we shared some laughs that day but his expression of sincere desire to be there for us, to express his sympathy for our loss has remained in that little pocket of my heart that he melted with his smile and gentle caring concern for the troops and the war in Afghanistan that took our beautiful son and three of his comrades that Labour Day weekend, September 3rd 2006. Don’t ever believe that time heals all wounds…friends, family and love of community is what will help heal or cover the raw pain…unfortunately, grief is the price of love lost.
We were not there, we did not witness the pain, suffering and intense grief these troops felt…even if the most educated among us would try…they cannot understand…this is why they open up to those who have experienced and lived the same, or similar trauma…in the end…they are medically released from the only ones who have ‘Been There…Done That’. We need to seriously think about that truth and stop trying to understand what we never can and assist where we can…Tyson understood this and did what our elected members and Veterans Affairs failed to understand. Let’s keep this boys dream alive…help where and when we can…and for sure that beautiful smile will be with us forever.
Please know that we carry you all in our hearts and prayers and wish above everything that in some small way we could take even some of your pain..
