We were saddened to learn of Kay's passing. I knew Kay and all her siblings for as far back as I can remember and I was pleased and honoured to have been the Best Man at Kay's and Lloyd's wedding. You could count on the same pleasant greetings from Kay any time you met her. Over the years when I was campaigning for public office we had good chats at her door. I have fond memories of both Kay and Lloyd. Rest in Peace my friends.

Tribute to Kay Mackenzie
By Bonnie Bryant
Today, I would like to pay tribute to a great woman, “Kay Mackenzie”. I first began to know Kay through her daughter, Helen, when she was a student in my social work classes, back in 1989, at Catherine Booth Bible College, now Booth University College. After Helen graduated, we developed a friendship that has lasted throughout the years. Kay adopted me into the family and treated me like a daughter.
Helen and I attended the same Salvation Army Corps in Winnipeg and became great friends upon her graduation. It was during this time that Kay welcomed me as a member of her family. I was always included in family events, whether in person or from a distance. She was always caring and kind. She was a role model for her children. She helped them grow up and become the adults they are today.
Kay was a family person and loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was so proud of each one and shared in their accomplishments, often from a distance. The cost of travel made it prohibitive to attend major milestones in their lives. This was always a huge disappointment and loss for her.
Today we celebrate a brave and godly woman, who loved her Lord. She was active and served in the Westville Corps, through the Home League, League of Mercy and as a Scout leader. She was active right up until health failed and she could no longer attend. I loved to hear her stories and how much joy participating in these activities gave her. She contributed to the lives of many young people in her role as a Scout Leader.
Helen and I always enjoyed her visits to our home in Winnipeg. We shared in many road trips, showing her some of the highlights of our province. I remember the day we decided to take a trip to the states for the day. We got to the border only to discover Kay had left her ID back at the house. Here sat three women of faith. We prayed and knew God could do the impossible. I don’t know why we were so surprised when the customs officer let us through.
Christina, you will cherish the three weeks you had with grandma, when your dad was sent to Newfoundland to work. The joy of watching Sammy and Atti climb up in bed with grandma will linger on in your memories and stories you will be able to share with your children as they grow.
Kirk, I say thank you to you for caring for mom over these past seven years. You cared for her every need. Knowing you were there was a relief to us who live at a distance. You kept her home right up to the end.
Kay you may be gone but you are still deeply in our hearts. You lived for God and others, and loved everyone around you. Thank you for living such a beautiful life and being a great example to us.
On the resurrection morning, we shall meet at the feet of our Lord and Saviour Jesus where there shall be no more pain, sickness, or death. We miss you Kay, but have hope that one day we will be joined wit youl.
In closing, I share the words from two passages of scripture that are favourites of mine and trust they will be a comfort to each of us today.
“Peace, I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27)
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flames scorch you.” (Isaiah 43:1-2)

Mom is the only thing that pops up. She took in this little 12 year old and never looked twice or treated me any different from her own.
Willykins, I will never forget that name that she always called me. After being gone from home for over thirty years she seen me and opened her arms like I never left.
I will never forget her and my heart will be always remember her with my own mother.

I wish I was here with you all today….I am Kay Mackenzie’s niece Tammy in Stratford, Ontario. My father is Kay’s younger brother William, or “Butch” as he is known “down home”. Incidentally, the name Butch was given to dad as Kay had trouble saying William….one of the many ways she sweetly touched our lives…..
I just wanted to share a few words in memory of my dear Aunt. She was strong!….even through all her physical ailments, she carried on with life with a huge smile, and loved LARGE on others…..She had the best bear hugs, always sent a little something to us, and never ended her many calls over the years without saying “Love you Dear!!” She always made us feel like we were right there, not provinces away.
But…..she NEVER could keep a secret!! Apparently that is “common knowledge” in the family, but I learned that the hard way. Shortly after my father passed, we decided last minute to drive out with my father’s ashes so his family had a chance to say goodbye (he was being interred in Ontario). Kay was living on SpringGarden Rd. in Westville at the time. We got to N.S. border far too early to visit family in Amherst, so we continued on to Westville. Kay was my first stop (after Tim Hortons and the Auburn cemetery to pay respects). She was soooo excited to see me and squeezed me to pieces with her huge hugs. I told her that no one knew I was there….it was a surprise and to “keep it secret!!”…..We no sooner left her place and the phones lines were burning!!! Everyone knew I was there….Kay called everyone!….I later found out “If you have a secret, for god sakes…. DON’T TELL KAY!!”
I am really going to miss her…..but I know she is having the best time in heaven with all her loved ones. I was once told that the people here on the earth with the biggest struggles in life, gain the biggest wings in heaven….Aunt Kay must have some set of beautiful ones!! She will always have a special place in my heart…..love you always Aunt Kay.
Tammy❤️
