Obituary of Florence MacKenzie
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beautiful loving mother Florence Margaret (Campbell) MacKenzie on April 5, 2023. Mom was also a loving wife, sister, aunt, great aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to many.
Born June 22, 1938 in New Glasgow she was the daughter of Hugh Campbell and Myrtle (Garvin) Campbell.
Mom was raised in Westville and she lived in Antigonish, Brookfield, Halifax where she learned to stretch a dollar. We often heard stories of while in Halifax she worked three jobs and lived in one room cooking on a hot plate and scrubbing clothes on a washboard to put our father through university as an engineer. Later on she lived in many U.S. states and Europe while raising her children. She travelled the world visiting many countries and spent many winters in Florida with Bill. As she moved us from home to home in the different places we lived, mom spent countless hours making each home our home. While moving from place to place mom had many adventures and stories to tell. Mom was a real talker. Mom will be remembered for her unique hair-do and style; her cooking and baking; her kindness and caring; her love of pets. Mom’s hugs meant a lot, nobody ever held us so tight or made us feel so right. Mom knew we loved her and that’s what mattered most. Mom’s death leaves us a heartache no one can ever heal, but mom’s love leaves us memories no one can ever steal.
She is survived by her loving companion William Evertt Frew; Children - son Donald (Michelle) MacKenzie III, Hopewell, daughters Charlotte (Greg) Medlock, Okeechobee Florida, and Sarah (Jim) Stewart, Lacombe Alberta; Grandchildren Jason, Jennifer, Kyle, Meghan, Donald IV, Carlie, and Emily; Great grandchildren Allison, Thomas, Freya, Gabriella, Margo and Eilidh; brother - Francis (Cheryl) Campbell, Lorne; sister Charlotte Cech, Minnesota USA and many nieces and nephews. Brother-in-law Burris MacDonald; Sister-in-laws Linda Campbell, Sandra MacLeod, and Louise Campbell.
She was predeceased by her parents; brothers Charles, Malcom, Keith, Hugh, Walter, Wilfred and Gerald; predeceased sisters Isabell Duff, Nora Harper, Olga MacDonald; she was also predeceased by her former husband Donald Bert MacKenzie II.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. Visitation is Tuesday, April 11, 2023 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Interment will be at a later date.
