Obituary of Carl "Charlie" McCunn
Carl M "Charlie" McCunn, 75 of Green Hill, Pictou County passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow.
Born on Febuary 6, 1948, he was a son of the late Robert "Bob" and Margaret (Simpson) McCunn.
Carl attended Green Hill Elementary, WPDH and received a B Comm from Saint Mary's University. He joined Revenue Canada in 1970 and resigned as a business auditor in good standing in 1976. With his brother Bob they formed McCunn Enterprises Ltd. and opened a store location on the TCH in Green Hill operating an appliance store, commercial refrigeration business and an income tax and accounting practice from the location. After a few years they separated to follow separate career paths.
Subsequently, Carl closed out the retail operations to concentrate on the accounting practice under the name of MTS Accounting Sol-utions. until selling in 2021. He was also active in Select Properties Inc. , a commercial real estate company with local holdings with his business partner and friend Dougie DeMont. Carl's business ventures were supported by some excellent staff members, several of who remain close personal friends.
Carl was a member of the Pictou West Conservative Association, the Conservative Party of Canada and a former board member of CBDC NOBL of Pictou County and Economic Development Fund. Carl was a member of the Bluenose and Westville Curling Clubs and was Past President of the New Glasgow City Club and a huge fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and Maple Leafs.
Carl is left behind by his daughter Becki Haltom (Andrew Boyd), Pine Grove; son Michael McCunn, Amherst; his biological son, Michael Keddy, Saint John NB ; grand children Hannah Chisholm-Haltom, Logan Haltom and Brianna Keddy. He is also survived by his brother and best friend Bob (Dyann), Alma; sister Mickie Mansour, Cole Harbour; niece Meika and nephews Clayton and Nathan; special cousin Jeanie Gates, Central West River as well as many other cousins and his beloved black lab, Chuck.
He was predeceased by his parents Bob and Margaret (Simpson) McCunn, brother in law Bob Mansour.
As per Carl's wishes, there will be no visitation but a celebration of life will take place at The West River Fire Hall on Saturday January 27 from 1-4 pm . Donations in Carl's memory may be made to the Salvation Army or Viola's Place.
