Obituary of Robert Ferguson

Robert Eli (Bob) “Tichie” Ferguson, 80 of Westville passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 in the Aberdeen Hospital with his loving family by his side.

Born on November 22, 1938, he was a son of the late Ivy (Harris) Ferguson and Robert Ferguson.

Tichie, at the young age of 16, started work with the Goodman Company in New Glasgow.  He became their floor designer and decorator where he continued to work for over 30 years creating beautiful window and floor displays. Bob used these skills to decorate St. Paul United Church every Christmas for many years.  After Goodman’s closed, he and his wife built and operated Ferguson’s Sport Shop in Westville, until the age of 76 when they retired. Ferguson’s became a hub within the community and for hunting and fishing enthusiasts. He always enjoyed great conversations with his customers about fishing, hunting and Boy Scout supplies.

Bob generously volunteered for his community serving on various associations and committees.  He was a scout leader for many years, and was a founding member, past president and director of the Pictou County Rivers Association. In 2001 he was recognized by the Province of Nova Scotia and received a volunteer of the year award for his dedication to sportfishing and efforts to create opportunities for young anglers. Tichie was a proud member of the Westville Fire Department for 37 years.

Tichie had many talents and a great love of music. He was a well-known drummer with the Classics and the Blue Cats in the 1960's. As an emerging rock band, the Blue Cats became very popular and toured the region extensively. They developed life long friendships and particularly with lead singer Harold Bordon, who he often called his “other brother”.

Bob will be dearly missed by his wife Marjorie (Mills); daughter Lisa LeBlanc (Jason), Westville; sons Owen (Michele), Westville; Rick (Linda), Lansdowne; Billie Joe (Joanne), Springville; Paul (Angel), Windsor, Ont.; grandchildren Brayden LeBlanc; Tiffany MacKenzie (Donald) and Tyler Ferguson (MacKenzie); Crystal Roach (Ray); Sarah Ferguson; Meeghan, Jaydon and Brandon Ferguson; great grandchildren Savannah and Jaxton; brother Owen (Lynn) and nephews Wayne and Brad, Sydney and the Mills Family (in-laws), from St. Andrews.

He was predeceased by his first wife Sarah (Morrison) and infant son John Frederick.

Bob is resting at Eagles Funeral Home, Westville with visiting on Friday from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm.  His funeral service will be held 11 am Saturday from St. Paul United Church, Westville with Rev. Dr. Mary Taylor officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Westville Fire Dept.  Park Project or the Nova Scotia Lung Association.
